On request, WICH PALETTEN are subjected to IPPC treatment and/or dried to a required residual wood moisture. This ensures that the requirements of international trade are met.
In doing so, we always ensure compliance with international standards.

Requirements
ISPM 15 requires:
- Treatment of the solid wood using a recognised measure
- Marking with the prescribed stamp as confirmation that the treatment was carried out in accordance with regulations
- Debarking
All measures are not time-limited. Neither a phytosanitary certificate nor a declaration for packaging made of wood-based materials (so-called non-wood declaration) is required.
Recognised treatment measures:
Heat treatment (HT)
- 56°C must be reached in the core of the wood for a period of 30 minutes
- The advantage of technical drying to a residual moisture content of 18% is that it helps prevent mould formation
Fumigation with methyl bromide (MB)
This is the only fumigation measure permitted by ISPM 15. In the EU, the use of methyl bromide has no longer been permitted since 2010-03-18. The use of wood packaging that was previously treated with methyl bromide, or originates from third countries and is treated with methyl bromide, is still permitted.
Microwave treatment (Dielectric Heating DH)
In this process, 60°C must be reached for one minute across the entire wood cross-section. The maximum permitted wood thickness for this method is 20 cm.
Further measures:
Packaging must be made from debarked wood.
However, bark remnants are permitted if they are less than 3 cm wide (at any length) and, if wider than 3 cm, are less than 50 cm² in area (credit card size).

The marking must be legible, permanent and visible, preferably on two opposite sides of the packaging. It must not be hand-painted. The colours red or orange should be avoided.
Only companies registered with the responsible plant protection service are permitted to use the mark. The plant protection service issues the registration number upon application and after inspection of the company.
Registered companies are inspected at least once a year for compliance with the requirements in accordance with ISPM 15.

Since our wooden pallets and packaging are used worldwide and, especially in sea transport, are sometimes exposed to extreme climate fluctuations, they must be technically dried to a specific residual moisture content to prevent subsequent mould formation. The automotive industry, for example, specifies a residual wood moisture content of 14–18%.
This both meets the globally applicable IPPC standard and prevents mould formation. The combination of wood and corrugated cardboard in packaging, as well as the transport of sensitive products such as food, metals or electronics, also makes technical drying an important part of production. Our partners have drying chambers, all equipped with state-of-the-art drying technology and the required covered storage capacities. In total, we have 23 drying chambers at various locations with a drying volume of approx.1,760 m³ at our disposal.

Of course, we will be happy to review the possibility of purchasing defective or intact pallets.
This is possible in particular for EUR and CP pallets, as well as standard one-way pallets.

There is the option to repair or recycle defective pallets. In some cases, we offer this service as an exchange. We supply you with intact, repaired and inspected pallets and take back damaged pallets.
